  1. During my trip at Whipsnade zoo, I’ve learnt about many different types of animals and their habitats, how their features help for them to adapted to their habitat and how their environment is important for them to catch their prey. My favourite part was when I saw the bears. I thought they were really adorable. Another favourite part of it was when we sawth e penguins. The Rockhopper penguins had a haircut. They had spikes on the top of their heads.
We saw some meerkats bathing in the sun on logs. Mr G took a picture of a meerkat looking inquisitively at the camera!
We went into a butterfly house with butterflies fluttering all around us. We saw over 30 species of butterflies. After we saw the butterflies we looked at the West African Dwarf Crocodiles and they are one of the smallest crocodiles but the looked pretty big to me! Next, we went to a playground before a bird show started. At the bird show we saw 2 non nocturnal owls, parrots and much much more. Whilst we were all having lunch I spotted a peacock sitting on top of a shed. As we walked on we saw tigers, elephants, giraffes, bulls, rhinos, cheetas and an awfull lot more.
Overall, it was a tiring day but memorable. This experience has been one to remember and I certainly won’t forget it!

  2. I had a really fun trip to Whipsnade. I learned a lot, my favourite fact was hippos mark their territory with scattered poo!! Thank you Mr G for organising the trip and taking great photos! B

We also saw alligotors, giraffes, lions, tigers, elephants, hippopotomaus, meerkats. They were magnificent. We also saw a peacock. I’ve learnt that not all owls are nocturnul.

  4. Yesterdays trip to Whipsnade zoo was absolutely Amazing!!!!!!
First we visited The brand NEW butterfly house with 30 different species of butterfly like the Blue Morpho butterfly from South America . Next to it was the Dwarf African Crocodile with 7 baby crochets with a catfish play mate .Cute!! Next we played Stuck in the mud at the Hulabaloozoo. Then we had a splash the seals with a new baby seal pup ! Very cute . Finally we saw Elephants, girafs , Brown bears , hippos ,zedras , cheetas tigers and lions.

    1. This trip was ROAR-some! It was just a pity that Sir David Attenborough could not come too. I did ask him but he wrote back to say he was sorry (again) but could not make it. He is 90 after all and Alpha might be a bit too much for him.

After we visited the seals, we saw the bird show which was amazing also. An interesting fact was that a stork has a seven metre wing-span. Wow! That’s longer than a double decker bus.

When we saw the grua (which is type of buffalo) I was fascinated by their shiny, muscular backs. They are very powerful looking mammals. The asian elephants enclosure had a new member of the family – Elizabeth. I also saw other youngsters who was born in 2014 and 2015. They had grown a lot. Its amazing what their diet of mummy’s milk and fruit can do. The baby rhino was another mammal we saw that seems to grow quickly. At only one year old, it was almost as large has it’s mother.

The sloth bear from India has an cool adaptation. It has a hole in its front teeth to make it nice and easy to suck up ants.

Thank you teachers for organising a wonderful trip – it was right up my street. Mr G – you took a fabulous picture of all of us in front of that T-Rex – ROAR!!!

  10. Our trip to Whipsnade Zoo was a HUGE success!!!! First we visited the butterflies. The one I saw lots of times was the Blue Morpho. My personal favourite was the Glasswinged butterfly.
The Glasswinged butterfly had transparant wings so you could see straight through it!
After the butterflies we went to see the dwarf crocodiles. The baby croc was tiny, but the adult one was gigantic!!At first, I could only see one, but after a while I saw 3 or more. In the tank with the crocodiles was a catfish. That too was very big.
We also went to see the hippopotamus’, they guard their homes with poop. When they come out they spray the ground with their own poo. Their where two different types of hippos, two pygmy hippos, and two common hippos.
After, we saw the bird show.
They were the highlights of my day.

  11. During our trip to Whipsnade Zoo I learnt that there are some nocturnal owls in parts of the world. I found out that there were some animals that were just born. One baby elephant that was three weeks old and a giraffe that was a month old.On the trip we had to do some spotting for the baby crocodiles. My favourite animal was the butterfly’s because I could learn and see all the different types of them and when I go on other outings I could spot them. When we moved on to the meerkats one was lying on the floor like it was dead and the other one was standing on a high rock posing like it was the most important of the lot.I was eating my lunch when I spotted a peacock it looked beautiful.

  12. Whipsnade zoo school trip-30th June 2016
Yesterday, years three and four visited Whipsnade zoo in Dunstable. During our visit,we explored the lives of many animals. To begin with, we made a journey to the butterfly house.I saw many fluttering around, some were the ones I recall, such as the Glasswinged butterfly-I was a bit petrified myself but survived in the end!
We glanced at many others and attended the bird show!
I learned dozens of facts, one was that some owls create burrows for themselves and even put DUNG at the entrance for dung beetles to use and end up getting trapped!
The meerkats suited my liking on this trip, as they were cute and furry.
In the elephants bit, I found out about the newborn elephant, which was named after the Queen-so lucky!
I returned to school with everyone else feeling exhausted but jolly!

  13. I enjoyed seeing the lions. They were much bigger than I expected. I learnt that Lions Spend 16-21 hours of the day sleeping or resting. Lions are the laziest of the Big cats!
