Comment Help

Remember, your comments are reflective comments just like your smiley face comments at school. You can share what you’ve learnt, what you enjoyed and ask any questions you may have. Also, don’t forget to write full sentences with the correct punctuation!

A bad example: ‘I’ve learnt loads, that was great’

A good example: ‘I’ve learnt that the Sun is in the centre of our solar system and that it is really big’

Never Use a Full Name

Use other names, but nothing silly as this name appears for everyone to see. Names that are full names or silly names will not be posted. Use abbreviations like Mr G or Miss P or your initials will do.

  1. The book I read is called Sharks and is published by Parragon.

This book is about sharks. There are over 200 sea species of shark and include the Bull Shark, Great White Shark, Thresher Shark and there is also the Hammerhead Shark.

Bull Sharks swim close to the shore and also in freshwater rivers and lakes. Because of this they are likely to encounter with people fishing and swimming.

Great White Sharks sometimes called the Great White break the surface of the water as they hunt for food. These are the largest predatory fish in the ocean, their bite is about twice as powerful than that of a lion. Males grow up to 3.5-4m and females grow up to 4.5-5m. Their average weight is 700kg to 1800kg. They eat fish including other sharks, seals, sea lions, dolphins, small whales and sea turtles. They are found worldwide.

The Thresher Shark has the longest tail amongst any shark its upper part is almost as long as the rest of the shark’s body. When hunting fish, Thresher Sharks are known to ‘slap’ the water with their tails to stun their prey before eating it.

There are nine species of Hammerhead sharks and the Great Hammerhead is the biggest of all the
Hammerheads the shape of their head is unique. Males and females sharks grow 4-6m and their weight is 230-450kg. They eat fish including rays and other sharks, squid, octopuses and crustaceans (which are like crabs).

I found it very interesting as I didn’t know there were so many species of sharks.

  2. My book was called science and it was published by Miles Kelly.
It caught my eye as soon as I started reading it because of its hologram of a light bulb getting shattered and also its inspiring message ‘discover the scientific world. It tells you everything you need to know about chemistry, biology and physics. On the title page what got me extremely excited was that it showed an Aston Martin with an engine which shows you how the rear wheels move.I learnt that there are four types of gears e.g. reversing gears, pinion gear and sliding rack, bevel gears and finally slow pinion gear and slow worm gear. I also learnt that in the periodic table there are one hundred and eighteen elements. The final fact that I learned was that there was cars that run on hydrogen fuel although it was highly flammable.

  3. My book is called The Usborne Internet Linked Book Of Knowledge. It is published by Usborne. In this book you learn about everything from your body to space and from world maps and flags to scientists and inventors. This book has it all. One fact that really impressed me was that you can actually see all the planets occasionally just before sunrise. Another great fact was that Maglev trains use magnetic repulsion to help them glide along a rail. Also, did you know that the suns core is twenty seven times wider than the earth.
I would definitely recommend this to people who like facts and absolutely love science.

  4. The book that I have chosen is called ‘See inside Science’
This book is published by Alex Frith and Colin King. If I had a chance I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to read it, as it features all the main topics in science: space, what happened in the beggining of the earth, wild life and so much more.
These are the facts that I have learnt whilst reading this very humorous and funny book.
The begginning :some time later people appeared and wanted to know what they are doing on earth so they began using science to help them find some answers.
Space: stars grouped together in massive clussters are called galaxies. stars at the edge of the universe can be seen from earth but their light takes about 13 BILLION years to reach earth.
I will certainly recommend this book. Have fun reading….

  5. The book I have chosen is called ‘children’s encyclopedia animals’.This book is filled with interesting animal facts. This is an example of what I learnt eg.’ reptiles and amphibians find out about the world by using their senses, such as taste and sight.’I have also found out snakes have poor hearing and eyesight and interestingly the smallest mammal is the tiny hog-nosed bat.I found this book very fun and educational I enjoyed learning about a variety of animals

  6. I have chosen a book called Outer Space :
This book shows an amazing cutaway diagrams to examine our solar system,it’s planets ,and beyond in stunning detail. As well as ,allowing a fascinating visual insight into space exploration .You can learn more about what lies beyond our planet .This book tells us what happens when a star dies ?what causes an eclipse?
My favourite thing about this book was their description of the SUPERNOVA.

  7. As part of our science homework this week, we were required to write a book review. The name of the book that I selected is called OCEAN and it is by Miles Kelly. It contains 500 illustrated facts in five different subjects including: Seashore, Coral Reef and shipwrecks. As well as including these very interesting 500 facts, the book also contains several different experiments to try. Did you know, that six billion tonnes of phytoplankton grow in the Light Zone every year.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who really enjoys doing experiments and likes to learn about the ocean.

  8. The book that I have chosen is called ‘Animal Facts’ . It was edited by Gerard Cheshire. This book is extremely intriguing as it has fascinating facts and rare pictures if the animals.
Two of my favourite animals are the koalas and the kangaroos, that is why I read the facts about them, first.
Did you know that koalas are endangered as they are being hunted for their fur. This has been going on-continuously- for MANY years. The surviving population of the koalas are now being threatened by bush fires and vehicles, both taking their toll. They have a habit of eating soil which either aids digestion by helping to grind down leaves or the soil supplements their diet with vital minerals, perhaps it is both.
Kangaroos are marsupial mammals from Australasia. All kangaroos are grazing and browsing animals. Wallabies are, simply, the smaller species of kangaroo. Like all Marsupials, they rear or protect their young in a small pouch. The largest kangaroos are the Red Kangaroo (Macropus rufus) and the Great Grey Kangaroo (Macropus giganteus), both reaching 1.5m (5ft) from nose to tail root.
I would definitely recommend this book to any child or adult as this is an interesting and fun book to read. By the time you have finished reading the book, you would have become an animal expert.

  9. Name: The Seriously Squishy Science Book
    Author: Nick Arnold
    Publisher: Scholastic Ltd
    Summary:
This book was about everything in science (chemistry, biology and physics).I found this book incredibly interesting and after seeing the attractive, colourful cover, I was urged to read on. I especially liked the way the facts were easy to understand and funny. The pictures also helped with this. I really liked the part about a Black Hole because of the way it was described. There was a hotel which was situated in a black hole. The hotel was described to have a pull hard to resist and many other gruesome things, so now I know what a black hole is like. I would recommend this book to people who like reading gross, disgusting (but true) facts.

  10. I have just finished reading a book named The Solar System created by a company called Usborne. This book tells you all about our solar system, from how it began to explaining the eight main planets. The main thing I learnt was why Venus glows. This happens as it has a thick layer of clods surrounding it.The sun’s rays pass through the clouds and gets trapped under the clouds.Venus gets hotter and hotter,it gets so hot it glows in the dark.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and learnt loads from it!

  11. This book I have chosen is called ‘Oceans – a journey from the surface to the seabed’ by Jen Green. It has been published by Sue Grabham and illustrated by Laszlo Veres.

You can inhance your knowledge of our spectacular under water world, coral reefs, kelp forests, blue waters, murky depths and beyond…It’s also packed with stunning 3D pop-up scenes, hundreds of photographs and intriguing facts. Did you know that Great White Sharks can grow up to six metres long…Squid, octopuses and cuttle fish squirt and release a cloud of ink to make a ‘smoke screen’ to confuse their enemies. Not to mention that kelp fronds can grow up to ten metres long and Pacific sea horses up to 30cm in length.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes sea creatures and is fascinated by our oceans beneath. This was a great book and really fun to read.

  12. The book I have chosen is called ‘Over 1000 Fantastic Science Facts’ by Miles Kelly. It is an amazingly interesting book and what’s more, by the end you’ll be an absolute genius. With an eye-catching cover and a brilliant blurb this book has some super scientific facts. My favourites include: 1. the Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) train which I have learnt is the fastest train and surprisingly, only works on repelling and magnetism. 2. Another fact that really caught my eye is that termite towers might take longer than 10- 50 years to be built by termites. As a matter of fact I have be on the swift maglev train. Having experienced being on such a fast vehicle, I now understand the great science behind this magnificent train. I couldn’t put this breathtaking book down- it truly is astonishing with it’s stupendous facts. Now I understand the world in more depth and details. I would recommend this book to everyone – especially people that LOVE science. It is an epic book to read for both children and adults.

  13. My book is called the Usborne Illustrated Book of Science and it covers all 3 sciences; chemistry, physics and biology. It’s a great book to learn something new from and maybe find things that you might have never heard of. For example:
Crude oil can be refined to make different types of oil. These oils are used to power most of the motor vehicles in the modern world.
Everything in the universe is made up of elements. Elements are substances which cannot be broken down by a chemical reaction. All the known elements on earth are listed in the periodic table. When you mix 2 or more elements with a chemical reaction, you get a compound and if you blend 2 or more elements and/or compounds, you get a mixture. There are many more interesting and informative things to explore in this book and I really enjoyed it. Have fun reading!

  14. Name: The Science Book
    Author: Miles Kelly
    Publisher: Miles Kelly Ltd
Summary: This book tells you a lot about all the different sciences of chemistry, biology and physics. In the chemistry part of the book it told me about how if you drop Mentos into coke explodes. This happens as the Mentos react chemically with the coke which instantly creates bubbles of Carbon Dioxide gas. In the biology part I found that bodies cannot survive without having any energy from food. From the physics part I found out that a force is what makes things happen and that it can push or pull things.
In this book a fun fact is that diamond is 20 times harder than steel. I fully recommend this book to anyone who wants to read it.

  15. I am currently reading a book called ‘The Animal Book’
published by Miles Kelly. It is about many different types of animals and what amazing ability that they can do. It also includes prehistoric creatures such as dinosaurs. They show you many amazing photos of the animal that you are reading about and explains clearly what they can do. One of the facts that I found very interesting was the reasons why flamingos are pink. The reason is because the food that they eat have pink pigments. You can tell who the oldest flamingo is because they are a darker pink colour as they have eaten more pigmented food. I have really enjoyed this book.

  16. The book I have chosen is called General Knowledge by a book company called Usborne. This is a really interesting book, where you can dive into the knowledge of almost absolutely everything!
General Knowledge includes tons of facts about the World and its places and climate, landmarks, living things, a ‘Did You Know?’ section, scientists and famous inventions, entertainment about sports and games, a treasure trove section about the most valuable objects in the world, a timeline on all the major events that occurred from the Big Bang and finally a ‘True or False?’ and a ‘Can You Match?’ section.
General Knowledge is a super book and I love every single page of it from the start to the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read about General Knowledge and loves finding out about the world and its places, plants and animals.

  17. In the book called ‘The Seriously Squishy Quiz Book’ it shows questions that you can answer.
There is an introduction and sections on medicine, physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology and even dinosaurs.
There is a also a few facts throughout the book which helps with answering the questions.
There are multiple choice questions and full sentence questions , but to answer you don’t have to write you just have to think.
Also there are spot the difference questions and word search questions too.
For each question there are points to get. At the end you can add all of them up and keep your score (Try to beat my top score of 20). Watch out, because there are some hideous questions and some really cool questions too. As well as everything in the book there is a lot of pictures that help with every question.
If you read this book and know a lot about gross science and it will help and enjoy it.
You can play against friends and see who can get the highest score.

  18. The book I have chosen is called ‘Space’. It is published by ‘Miles Kelly’.
You can explore the universe and beyond- vast galaxies, supernova explosions, black holes and extra-terrestrials. You can also learn about new space technology, such as how astronauts train and also the incredible findings by famous astronomers.
This book contains hundreds of spectacular images. One interesting fact that I learnt was the first successful planetary probe was the USA’S Mariner 2, which flew past Venus in 1962.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes space and is interested in the universe. This was a spectacular, amazing book to read.
