  1. I’ve learnt that space travel is very dangerous because there are lot’s of things that could go wrong.
    Some of these are:
    Running out of oxygen.
    Too much carbon dioxide.
    Running out of fuel.
My favourite part was when they launched as it was the most exciting part.

  2. The movie was entertaining and educational at the same time! I learnt how dangerous space can be. They had not even got to the Moon before the oxygen tank blew up! My favourite part was when they landed – after all that in the end they all survived.

  3. It can be incredibly hard to get into space as there is no gravity and it is thousands of miles away and even though they didn’t make it to the moon they still got back safely. They were running out of oxygen so turned all the power off .

  4. The movie Apollo 13 was exciting and interesting as it shows the difficulty of escaping Earth’s gravity to reach space. It also shows the hazards of space travel such as an increase of carbon dioxide, a decrease of oxygen, an oxygen tank explosion and power running out hence needing to shut everything down and needing to rely on brains for the calculations and gravity for steering.

My favourite part was when they got back home safely.

  5. From watching Apollo 13, I have learnt that there are many dangers within space travel. The crew have to train in simulators until they get it exactly correct, with hours and hours of training a day.
If one tiny thing goes wrong in the spaceship it could lead to a big problem and the astronauts could even die if worst comes to worst. Some of the things that could go wrong are e.g:

    – Risk of explosions
    – Failure in communication system
    – Lack of oxygen
    – Extreme temperature changes
    – High levels of carbon dioxide in a confined area could potentially cause the astronauts to feel drowsy, pass out or even faint

My favourite part about the movie was when the lunar/command module safely entered Earth’s atmosphere and landed on sea. Overall I thought that Apollo 13 was a fantastic movie to watch.

  6. I think this film was amazing because it went through the steps of how they survived in space which was really cool .It went through the issues they had and how they came out on top

  7. I enjoyed watching the movie Apollo 13. It was fascinating to watch.

It has shown me the difficulties of reaching the Moon and what technical problems could occur during the mission like this such as:
    Running out of oxygen supply,
    Running out of power/fuel &
Too much Carbon Dioxide in the air (makes you feel dizzy)

Also when you are exiting the Earth’s atmosphere, Gravity might push you down to the ground. In the movie, they tilt sideways so Gravity can’t affect them.

It showed me how astronauts in the past have managed to try and reach the Moon. It also warns the astronauts in the future about problems that might get in the way for them.

My favourite part was when the fuel decreased gradually, and the crew were trying to work out the maths (instead of using the computer) because they didn’t have much fuel and had shut it down because it used lots of it.

I like this part because they were pressurised to save themselves from a calamity and had to do the maths themselves quickly and they did it by using a previously trained mathematical formula.

Overall, it was a great movie and I would recommend it to people who like space and Sci-fi movies.

  8. I think that Apollo 13 is a very interesting movie.I have learned that without oxygen, fuel or no computer, you cannot get to the moon and back safely.

  9. This movie Apollo 13 has taught me more about space.I thought that they wouldn’t survive but they got back to planet Earth safely, the movie was really good and I would watch it again.

  10. flying on a astronaut it takes a lot of effort and hard work

    facts

you need oxygen to breath on space
you need to train a lot to travel on space

    my favourite
part of the movie was when they landed safely

  11. The movie was great , I liked the bit where everything went wrong but was fixed again. There are a lot of dangers when you’re in space because you might run out of fuel or your oxygen might run out. That’s why there has been 11 Apollo missions before getting on the Moon . And even after 1 more mission after landing on the moon they still had problems. There has been 17 Apollo missions to gather rocks and scientists to study them after landing on the moon.

  12. I enjoyed Apollo 13 very much. It was a great movie. I learnt astronauts have a tricky job in space. Even while getting to space you have many things stopping you like Earth’s gravity. In space there are many things that could risk the astronaut’s life like:
    Running out of fuel
    Running out of oxygen (O2)
    Heatshield becoming loose.

  13. The Apollo 13 was absolutely fantastic!
It was a very fascinating movie, it was a bit sad at the end because I thought the crew wasn’t going to survive but they did and I was so happy they did.
I was a bit upset when KM ( one of the astronauts.) Couldn’t go with the rest of the crew on the rocket because he had a disease. But the whole thing was amazing!

  14. I thought Apollo 13 was really interesting because the crew never got to the moon. I have learnt all the dangers about getting to the Moon. They faced lots of problems in the command module. I also found interesting the fact that when the astronauts knew they were in trouble, their mission had changed from getting to the moon, to getting back home safely.

  15. Apolo 11 in my opinion is a good film.I like when they ran out of power and how they lived . But they didn’t get to the moon

  16. I think this movie was interesting because their oxygen tank blew up and how the A13 crew survived the serious problems and got back home safely with out injuring themselves or dying!!!

  17. I enjoyed watching Apollo 13 . I learnt that it is very hard to get into Space because you have to escape Earth’s gravity . I also learnt that it is very dangerous to travel into space because one of your oxygen tanks could explode.

    I loved Apollo 13.

    1. I learnt that it is really difficult to go to space as there is almost no oxygen in space and gravity is pulling us to the ground.
The part where they shut down the computer they had to use their accuracy to fire themselves back to Earth in the LM.
I was surprised how no one really cared about the mission until something went wrong.
I learnt that they used a heat shield to protect themselves from friction that was hitting at them at around a thousand MPH.

  18. I thought Apollo 13 was very interesting it showed us that Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise never got to the moon. They faced lots of problems like losing lots of oxygen in the command module. Jack felt dizzy because there was too much carbon dioxide entering his lungs. When entering the atmosphere it gets really hot so you need to have a heat shield to protect the module so it doesn’t break the module in half.

  19. I found the Apollo 13 interesting .I have learnt about the dangers in space i also enjoyed the movie.in the movie first part somwone has pressed the rong button and oxygen tank broke.the oxygen then was leaking out into space. that is also very dangerous.they also need more power fore them to come balk to earth.you also need to have right things if you are going to go on a space walk.it was also sad that they didn’t get to go to the moon.I LIKED THE MOVIE AND I WILL LIKE TO WATH IT AGAIN!!!!!

  20. I like the Apollo 13 movie as it shoes the dangers going to the moon. As there can be a very small problem leeding to many big problem which has to be solved .like the oxygen coming out of the spacecraft . My favourite part was when they had to make something so they can survive and come bake to Earth safully.

  21. I really enjoyed watching some of Apollo 13 and learning about the dangers in Space travel. Some dangers that astronauts face are
You need oxygen to keep you alive.
You need enough fuel to get to your destination (like the Moon or Mars) and if you don’t have a backup you are in trouble.
If there is too much carbon dioxide, the astronauts can feel dizzy and maybe even faint which would be catastrophic.
The oxygen tanks could explode and the astronauts wouldn’t be able to breathe.
If one thing goes wrong then the astronaut’s lives are put at risk so everything needs to be correct.
When landing on the moon a parachute is deployed to give a steady and stable landing.

My favourite so far of the movie is when they landed on the moon because it is interesting to watch what you have to do and it was very nervous as they could have got something wrong.

I have enjoyed watching the movie so far and look forward to watching the rest!!!

    Aaron

  22. Today we watched Apollo 13. I thought this movie was amazing and I would give it 5 stars. It teaches you that there could be many problems on the spaceship in space. Such as running out of oxygen, fuel or your electronics on your computer can mess up and you can over come these problems with a backup plan. The astronauts had lots of training which helped them overcome their problems. My favourite part was when they blasted off into space because there was lots of things happening during this part of the movie which created excitement and tension for me. Overall, I would love to watch this movie again!

  23. I found the Apollo 13 mission interesting and I learnt things from it.I learnt all about the dangers of space and enjoyed the movie. At the start of the movie, one of the thrusters stopped working. That could be dangerous because you might not have enough power to get back to Earth. If you are going on a spacewalk all your gear needs to be on properly, because if they are not then you could die. You need to keep fit in space because you are not using your muscles that often so your muscles rest and when you come back then your muscles are weaker. There was a lot of problems that they had to figure out. You get taller in space because gravity is pushing you to the centre of the Earth. However space has no gravity. I like how they solved their problems and it was really upsetting when they weren’t going to make it to the moon. Everyone was on the edge of their seats. I enjoyed the movie and intend to watch it again.

  24. Apollo 13 was a great movie to watch. The film has taught me that travelling to space requires hard work and one small thing could mess up everything. One danger is, the heat shield could break causing extreme temperatures for the crew on board. Another danger is running out of air resulting in fainting and you can even die. Running out of food and water will make you dizzy. In the worst cause scenario you could even die from that too.

The thing that went wrong with Apollo 13 was that there was a coil stuck in the oxygen tank causing a spark which turned into an explosion. It was amazing that the crew survived the harsh conditions. It explained travelling to the moon is easier said then done. The fact that we can defy Earth’s gravity and travel through space is really impressive. My favourite part was when they could turn the carbon dioxide level down so they could still breathe, and also when they came back down to Earth. I am so happy about learning about how dangerous space travel really is.

  25. After watching the Apollo 13 movie, I learnt that although exciting for the astronauts to travel to Space there are also dangers when going into Space. From the movie, I learnt that sometimes the mission does go wrong and you encounter some problems and dangers.
In Space, the dangers are that: you can sometimes lose oxygen, you can also lose fuel even before you have reached your destination and you may also lose connection with the mission controllers on Earth. These are some of the dangers of travelling into Space.

My favourite part of the movie was when the three astronauts landed back safely on Earth. I was sad when I saw that they might not make it back to Earth when their mission went wrong however they worked as a team and made it back!

  26. In the movie Apollo 13, I have learnt that when people go to space, there are many dangers. One danger is that your oxygen could go out of the spacecraft and then people in the spacecraft could die due to lack of oxygen. Also, as your muscles don’t have to work as hard as they do on Earth, they could shrink or even deteriorate. Another danger of going into space is that even if one thing goes wrong in the spacecraft, it could cause people to die or serious injuries could occur. I have also learnt that it takes a lot of force to lift off into space because gravity is always pulling things down. The best part of the movie for me was when the astronauts overcame all the things that went wrong and that they landed on Earth safely. It must have been a scary but enjoyable time for them.

  27. I have learned that it is extremely hard to survive in space. If you use too much fuel on the way there you’re not going to get back to earth. In Apollo 13 they were losing breathing oxygen so they had to turn back. My favorite parts of the movie was take off and them training.
    It was a great movie

  28. The movie Apollo 13 was extremely tense, and I really enjoyed it. The movie was fun, entertaining, but very informative and nail-biting as well.

I’ve learnt that they are a lot of dangers that astronauts face when they travel to space. These include:
-The increase of carbon dioxide in the spaceship
-The oxygen or fuel tanks exploding
    -Running out of fuel
-The entire rocket crashing or exploding
    -Running out of oxygen
-The temperature could suddenly and massively decrease
    -The engines could break down

Astronauts may also experience vomiting, and their bones will start to break down. Their eyesight will also begin to deteriorate.

Those are just some of the various things that could go wrong aboard a rocket. Only 1 fault can completely ruin the mission, blowing up the rocket, which could lead to death.

The mission Apollo 13 was meant to land on the moon, but due to serious faults, it had to return back to Earth. I really appreciated the hard work that the captain and the people on Earth put in, to save the astronauts from grave injuries, or even death.

However, it was a great movie, and has helped me learn a few more things, broadening my knowledge about space.

  29. I have learnt a lot of things from this movie, including the dangers of travelling to space.I now understand how dangerous losing oxygen can be.One small problem in space could mean a large threat or even death.

The problems you should be ready to face are countless. Some of the examples are:

    -losing oxygen
    -losing power
    -rips in spacesuits
    -falling ill
    -burning while entering the atmosphere
    -getting hit by an asteroid
    -fuel leak
    -engines malfunction
    -to land safely

And again, these are only SOME of the dangers in space. This movie also administrates that one problem can lead to another, this could keep happening until something unpredictable happens, like an explosion.

  30. I love the movie Apollo 13. I learnt a lot about the dangers of space. My favourite part was when he said Houston we have a problem

  31. I have learnt that there are many dangers of going into space like:
-The carbon dioxide levels could increase
-Your rocket could run out of power
-Something could break of your rocket
-The windows could break and you could get sucked outside
    -Your oxygen levels could decrease
This can lead to many issues.
Watching this movie has made me realize how hard it is to travel to the Moon and to be able to come back to Earth.

  32. I really enjoyed watching Apollo 13 and learning about the dangers in Space travel. Some of them are:
You need oxygen to keep you alive.
You need enough fuel to get to your destination (like the Moon) and back to Earth.
If there is too much carbon dioxide, the astronauts can feel dizzy.
    The oxygen tanks could explode.
You could freeze because temperature is very cold in Space.
If one thing goes wrong then the astronaut’s lives are put at risk so everything needs to be correct.

My favourite part of the movie was when the astronauts had to close down the rocket so they could save power. I thought they would freeze because the heaters were off.

Thank you Mr G for letting us watch Apollo 13!
I learnt a lot about the dangers in space.

  33. Apollo 13 was a great movie. I’ve learnt that anything can go wrong in outer space for example you have to check that everything is right and anything can go wrong for example you have to check the rocket boosters are on the right amount for takeoff. Also when you are in space you have to steer the ship in great care when you are going to your destination like the moon.
The bit that I enjoyed was where the spaceship took off because I got to see how they got in and how they got into the spaceship. it was really fascinating.

  34. I enjoyed watching Apollo 13 because it shows how skillful you have to be and how hard it is to get to the Moon

Apollo 13 is cool because it is a true story and teaches people the challenges that the crew had to face. There was always a problem which made sure it never got boring.

My favourite parts were when they had a disaster [like when parts of the shuttle broke off] and how they used different strategies to overcome it. Unfortunately, they did not get to land on the Moon but I’m sure that it must of been an adventure of a lifetime!

I thought Apollo 13 was a great movie because it also shows the dangers of going into space and I could imagine in my head what it would of been like to be there.
I am really looking forward to learning more about space this term.

  35. I really enjoyed the movie Apollo 13, it has really increased my knowledge about the topic of space . I have also learnt about the dangers of space and what can happen if you make one mistake in space. My favourite part of the movie was when the astronauts landed home safely because I thought they wouldn’t survive in space, but when they finally arrived back to Earth I was happy to know that they reached safely.

  36. The movie was very interesting.I have learnt the dangers of being in space. The Apollo 13 crew must have been in great danger.Little problems can cause a lot more things to happen. My favourite part of the movie was when the crew were able to fix some things and were able to get home.

  37. I really enjoyed Apollo 13. I learnt that if 1 thing went wrong in the rocket, the astronaut’s could die. Some of the dangers are: running out of oxygen, (you can’t survive) too much carbon dioxide, (you can’t survive) running out of fuel, (you can’t get back to Earth) and losing connection (if there is anything wrong with the rocket you can’t talk to mission controllers).

I have learnt a lot about the dangers of space travel.

  38. From watching Apollo 13 I saw how there were various things that could go wrong such as the crew need oxygen to breathe and enough fuel to get to the Moon as it is a very far distance away from here on Earth. I also learnt about how there were so many people doing different jobs. Jim Lovell, Ken Mattingly and Fred Haise were the real people to go to space but unfortunately Ken Mattingly pulled out and unfortunately did not go to the moon.

My favourite part of the movie was when the crew returned home, I was relieved that this happened as I did not think that they would survive .Unfortunately in Apollo 13 they did not reach the moon but I still loved this movie as there was so much suspension and was very enjoyable to watch.

  39. I really liked the Apollo 13 mission movie as it told us about a problem
in the spacecraft and how the officers and space crew dealt with it.
They were very lucky to come back to Earth.I’ve learnt that if there is
a problem with something, do not go to the end, just go back to the start. But, fix the problem first!

  40. This brings back my YEAR 5 memories of when I watched it! This movie has lots of suspense and tension which I like! The movie just goes to show how it only takes one minor fault to endanger the entire mission and put the astronauts’ lives at risk.

  41. I have learnt that there are a lot of dangers when you’re an astronaut and you’re going to space. Some of the dangers is:
. Running out of oxygen – you can’t breath as you need oxygen to survive
. Running out of fuel – you need enough fuel for the rocket to reach its destination (in this case the moon) and back to Earth
. Connection – you have to keep in touch with the mission controllers and not lose connection because if something goes wrong you need to tell them immediately

I have really enjoyed the movie clip and I know so much more about Space and my knowlege has increased a lot

  42. My favourite part of the movie was when Jim Lovell ( Tom Hanks ) understated “ Houston, we’ve got a problem here,” when actually they were in grave danger.

Also, I’ve learnt that if you aren’t ill but you are going to be very soon, like Ken Mattingly in the film, you can’t travel into Space.

From the film, I have learnt about some of the most perilous dangers of Space travel. For example:
    – The oxygen levels could decrease.
    – The carbon dioxide levels could increase.
    – The temperature could decrease.
    – The oxygen tanks could explode.

I really enjoyed the film ‘Apollo 13’ and my knowledge of Space has increased!

  43. The Apollo missions have been so fascinating. I love learning about them. The Apollo 13 is famous because of the problem it had. If
oxygen was leaking then the astronauts could have easily been killed. However will the astronauts be able to figure something out in time before all the oxygen leaks out of the spacecraft or will it be an epic fail?!!

  44. I watched the Apollo 13 movie and I really enjoyed it!

My favourite part of the movie was when every system in the rocket had to be closed down to save power and as a result the capsule became very cold as there was no power for the heaters.

Some examples of things that went wrong in the Apollo 13 mission are:

    • The crew lost vital oxygen supplies as an oxygen tank exploded in the second service module.

    • One of the five engines on board broke down.

    • Too much CO2 (carbon dioxide) built up within the lunar module. The crew members, Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert, had to adapt the air filters by creating square-shaped filters using only the objects on board

The Apollo 13 movie is tense, exciting and shows how the three astronauts on board solved lots of problems and got back to Earth alive.

The objective of Apollo 13 was to land on the moon (but sadly, they failed).

  45. Apollo 13 was a great movie. It taught me about the dangers of being in space and the difficulties that the crew faced made me realize how hard it really is to get to the Moon. Although the trio may not have reached their main destination ,the film was still an inspiring adventure that made me scratch my head once or twice.
I learnt lots of things such as that you can use another planet’s gravity such as the Moon in this case to sling-shot in the other direction (remember not to get to close or the planet’s gravity might pull you in .)

  46. I learnt from the Apollo 13 movie that if even the smallest thing goes wrong with a rocket, it could blow up the entire thing.

My favourite part was when the crew took off to go to the moon.

I also learnt that you have a time limit of the amount of oxygen you have.

  47. I know that space travel is very dangerous and astronauts have to take various medical tests incase they get ill in space.
I also learnt that not just the astronauts have to work hard but the people that help plan their trip. The astronauts have to go through various simulators to make sure they know exactly what to do like to know what each buttons do and how you might need to use them. They also have to know what to do in an emergency . The astronauts also have to be careful when training as some activities can be quite dangerous.
Also the astronaut that steers needs to be very careful and accurate . They also need to make sure they take enough oxygen and fuel, but just the right amount because too much could cause a fire. I think going into space would be quite scary.

  48. I have learnt from that truly facinating video that everything could go horribly wrong from one mis-calculation like only calculating enough air for two people when there are three of them.

So if I ever want to be a astronaught the scientists better check everything over and over again!!!

  49. By watching the incredible movie Apollo 13, I have learnt many facts about the dangers of going to space. From communication being cut out to an Asteroid hitting your spacecraft.

  50. Apollo 13 ,
Apollo 13 was amazing because of the true story of the mission. All the problems that can be prevented by one explosion is countless but luckily can be solved. The spaceship they used to travel in was packed of facilities, unfortunately couldn’t be used if there was an explosion so the astronauts controlling Apollo 13 were suffocating with no power, low oxygen and no sleep. One small problem in space could mean a large threat or even death.

The family’s of the men in space were worried about them straight after the news came of the startling explosion they didn’t leave hope. Fortunately the team worked hard, day and night until they landed on earth.

I would recommend this movie to everyone especially because of the dramatic problems. From this movie I’ve learnt all about the experience of space. I could watch this movie a hundred times.

  51. Apollo 13 was a great movie,
there is many dangers when going to space like
1 you can run out of oxygen and you won’t be able to survive,
2 you need a lot of power otherwise you might not get to the moon 3 and back again,
4 you need the energy to talk to the mission team if there is a problem.

My favourite part of the movie when a women comes to the lift of
ceremony and she told her Husbund [who is a astronaut ] she didn’t want to come. It was like a surprise.

  52. From Apollo 13 I have Learnt that there are many things you have to check before going into space and when you go into space if the slightest thing like too much power goes wrong the astronauts are in big danger.
I have also learnt that there are multiple engines and fuel tanks on a spacecraft that need to be kept in perfect condition, as when hit by a asteroid there can be a big leak and they can lose oxygen.
Too much Carbon Dioxide can be very dangerous in space.

  53. From the Apollo 13 movie learnt that how hard it is to get to space and all the possibilities that you might fail the mission. I have also learnt how hot or cold it is in space.

Firstly, the things that could stop you from getting to space are asteroids and meteors that could set you off track if you get hit by one, explosions or fires forming, not enough oxygen or fuel,if you are aiming to land on the moon but miss its orbit you could go on and on and on into space, too much CO2 [carbon dioxide] on board with you which could poison your breathing.

Secondly, the temperature drops the further you are from the sun and from the Luna’s point of view it is 127 degrees celsius [warmest] and -173 degrees celsius[coldest.]

Anyway, it was a great, amusing film and I learnt a lot!

  54. After watching Apollo 13, I have learnt many new and interesting facts about the dangers and difficulties of space. For example, there may be a lack of oxygen or the rocket could run out of fuel. When coming back down to Earth, you go very quickly creating high friction. This heat is very dangerous as it could cause a fire.

One of my favourite part was when the rocket first launched off. This gave me a very curious and exciting feeling about what`s going to happen and whether these astronauts would survive.

Secondly, the temperature drops the further you are from the sun and from the Luna’s point of view it is 127 degrees celsius [warmest] and -173 degrees celsius

  56. even though they were NOT the real astronauts,I LOVED IT. It is deadly out there i never would recommend living in space but the scary thing [not to me just a phrase] the oxygen went out of the bottom shuttle.

  57. Christmas lectures
As part of the Christmas’ Holidaywork’, Year 5 were required to watch the three lectures – air , water and earth. Now this task was pretty amusing , because the medieval people had all sorts of beliefs. Their beliefs were so funny , that I almost fell off my chair laughing !
From the air lecture , I have learnt about medieval alchemists , who believed that they got powers from their scientific knowledge , but what is EVEN WEIRDER is that they even attempted to change ordinary metals into GOLD!They also tried to create strange potions , and I really wonder if and how they got these potions correct and accurate.I have also learnt how air is pushing down on us.
After the water lecture, I came to know about the fountain of youth, that could improve the health of an old man.Which elements are in its water?
Halogens such as Bromine and Iodine? ,noble gases such as Krypton and Xenon and Unonoctium? , or maybe some Lanthanides and Actinides such as Cerium , Europium , Uranium,Mendelevium and Lawrencium?I wonder.
I know that there are around 100 elements in the periodic table (118 to be precise!) and water isn’t part of them, something realised around two centuries ago. I have also learnt that when you pop a balloon, water is formed. This is because there is hydrogen in the balloon which mixes with oxygen in the air creating water, which you can’t exactly see because energy in the air turns the water into vapour and scatters it all around, which to me is weird, but what is WEIRDER is that the water isn’t IMPOSSIBLE to spot!
After watching the Earth lecture , I have learnt about, yet again , another ridiculous belief of the medieval people , a belief that they could change cheap lead into rich gold.I mean that’s simply madness, right?
I know that when lead and oxygen are combined , they react to form a weird-looking yellowy-orange compound by the name of ‘Lead-Oxide’ . Gold never changes in appearance , no matter how long you keep it for.Funny, isn’t it?

  58. From Apollo 13, I have learnt that there are many hurdles in space, which astronauts need to learn to fight with when they go into space.
For example, if the connection between the crew in the spacecraft and the control centre on Earth breaks or if there are problems with heat shields or failure in tracking the spacecraft or if the oxygen runs out on board of the spacecraft.
Even though the moon appears so close to us, there are many dangers while going to the moon or coming back, like what happened in the movie when the oxygen tank was low and they had to switch off everything to save electricity.
The part that I found scary was when pieces of the rocket started to break off placing astronauts life in danger, but I enjoyed the part when the parachute opened up and the capsule glided down like a fireball, across the sky, and landed safely on Earth.

  59. I have learnt all about the dangers of going out into space, here are a few example
A: one slight problem and you wouldn’t make it out alive
B: when coming back down to Earth, you are going so fast that it creates friction and friction means heat, so realistically you are on fire.
    C: also lack of oxygen

My favourite part of Apollo 13 was when the crew made it back down to Earth safely after all their problems that happened in Space.

  60. I have learnt from the movie that there are many hurdles in space that astronauts face and need to address. For example, loosing oxygen, unable to land safely on moon, problem with heat shields, failure of computers and other instrumentation and communication failure with the control centre on Earth. Although the astronauts and everyone on earth feared for the worst outcome, the 3 astronauts on Apollo 13 stayed calm and did not panic. They performed all the correct steps to be taken during the emergency.

My favourite part of the movie was the landing of the 3 crew members back on earth and seeing the joy in the eyes of the family members.

  61. I have learnt how dangerous it is to go to space and when something does go wrong you have to stay calm , think what to do, tell mission command, and to tell them the electricity levels so they can try to help .For example in Apollo 13 they stayed calm, told mission command and listened to them and that is what they should do, they survived because they listened.

  62. Apollo 13 is a wonderful film. This film demonstrated the potential dangers of travelling into space.

Space can be a hazardous environment and the movie showed that accidents in space can be extremely dangerous. Teamwork, bravery and the intelligence of the NASA staff and astronauts helped ensure the team returned to earth safely.

  63. I have learnt that space travel takes a lot of hard work, energy and preparation so if something goes wrong you know what to do. My favourite part of the movie was when the crew were running out of oxygen and they figured out a way to sort it out.

  64. There are many dangers astronauts face if they are to make it into space and back home again. The first problem Apollo 13 encountered was when one of their astronauts fell ill two days before launch. This meant that they had to use a substitute. The difficulty with this was that the crew members were not as used to each other as they should have been. In a successful mission everyone has to work as a team being supportive and knowing each others strengths and weaknesses. On Apollo 13 Lovell and Hasie could not predict what the new crew member would do.

The next danger was one of the five engines broke down. This was not fatal but they did have to burn more fuel and this reduced the O2 a bit. However, the biggest problem which really cause the disaster was the explosion in the O2 tanks which blew off a panel when the O2 was stirred.

There was another gas problem – too much CO2 was building up in the capsule, and they had the wrong shaped filters. To solve this problem, the ground crew had to create a way to turn square filters into round ones only using the stuff they had on board the space craft.

Astronauts during this time had to face being hit by meteorites but all missions had to think about this danger. All missions must also think about their power. On Apollo 13 they had to use the little power they had wisely. Power was needed for everything, the computer, keeping them warm, even getting rid of their wee.

Also, re-entry is a very dangerous point. If the heat shield was cracked Apollo 13 crew would have burnt up. This really did happen in 2003 when the space shuttle broke into bits killing all astronauts on board during re-entry. A tile had come off the heat shield and a crack got bigger and disaster struck.

My favourite part was when they were training to hook up with the lunar explorer and they were practicing on and on until it was perfect. I also enjoyed the scene when the astronauts were looking at the surface of the moon and all the different features like the Sea of Tranquility. The re-entry scenes were pretty cool too. There was a lot of suspense when NASA Ground Control could not speak to them on the radio for longer than usual. We all thought that they had perished.

  65. There were many dangers that the Apollo13 crew faced even before they left Earth. Every space crew must work together well. It is difficult if there are last minute changes because the crew must get used to the way someone new thinks and behaves.

Oxygen is also dangerous for two reasons. First it is flammable and can cause explosions. That was the cause of all Apollo13’s problems. Second, oxygen is important because astronauts cannot breath without it. Also in Apollo13 there was a problem with the CO2. They could not get rid of it because the filters did not fit so they had to make square filters fit into round ones. Astronauts must bring everything with them including power. It is dangerous if power runs out which is usually battery or fuel.

One of the problems in space is if you become ill. There are no doctors and an ambulance cannot fetch you so you can only take a tablet and wait until you get back home. Sick people should not go into space in the first place which is why Ken Mattingly had to stay behind. They thought he was going to get the measles while on the expedition, but instead it looked like Fred Haise was the one who became ill.

In space there are no rescue missions, so it is important that everyone is able come up with a plan if things go wrong. They need to be able to improvise this and this is a really valuable skill because there are no right answers all the time. The unexpected can happen and you need to use your brain to “work the problem”. This is what Gene Kranz says.

My favourite bit was when Lovell and his crew thought they were broadcasting on TV but it was not being shown. The show was made quite hysterical when they drank floating balls of juice, played “Going on up to the Spirit in the Sky” and did somersaults. I also liked when things went wrong, like the exploding O2 tanks and the broken engine which made me think will they make it back to Earth or not. Overall, I thought Apollo13 was a fantastic movie and I’ve watched it twice now because Mr G leant it to me. Thanks Mr G!!

  66. I really enjoyed the movie ‘Apollo 13‘ as it was funny, exciting and amazing. I learnt how hard it was for all the crews of the Apollo missions, for example Apollo 1 didn’t survive take off and lots others were a failure as well. The dangers of space travel are very high. Even one malfunction could blow up the whole ship. Scientists need to calculate where the moon will be in 3 days time and the astronauts have to make sure they don’t land on a bumpy surface on the moon and crash. NASA have to make sure there is enough oxygen to last the whole journey but not too much carbon dioxide. My favourite scene was when the rocket blasted off the launch pad and entered Earth’s upper atmosphere.

  67. After watching Apollo 13 I have learnt there are many dangers in space:

    1. Meteors can hit your ship

    2. Space rubbish such as astronauts tools which have been left and lost during space walks to fix the ISS and Hubble space telescope, broken pieces off of the ISS , Hubble space telescope, old satellites , rocket engines and even bits from EVA space suits! All of these can hit your rocket.

    3. There is a vast space and distance between the moon and Earth

    4. There is no air/oxygen for the astronauts to breath.

    5. There is huge differences in temperature such as 400 degrees while facing the sun and -200 when facing away from the sun! Luckily the EMU Suit protects the astronauts. Inside the EMU suit the astronauts wear a Liquid Cooling Garment to control their body temperature.

6 Re-entry into Earth can burn up the rocket if there is no heat shield on the rocket. Luckily in Apollo 13 very few heat shields were damaged which made re-entry success.

My favourite bit was when they pulled together as a team when they re-entered and landed in the ocean.

  68. After watching the movie Apollo 13, I have learnt that there are several danger aspects involved in travelling to space. Previous space missions have left behind great amounts of debris and floating fragments, therefore this increases the risk of collision and could breakup the shuttles. The small bits of rock and dust might puncture a spacecraft hull or an astronaut’s pressure suit when in space. Loss of air is fatal in the vacuum of Space and serious accidents might happen as a result of this, as astronauts will be unable to breathe. The extreme temperature of space poses another threat, the freezing darkness to the boiling sunlight, the hostile environment of Space requires equipment to be carefully and properly designed. Prior to lifting off, it is crucial that there is enough fuel for the rocket to reach it’s destination and for it’s return journey.

My favourite part of the movie was when all the Apollo 13 astronauts returned home safely, as at one point I honestly thought they were all going to die. Tom Hanks showed great courage, bravery and the fighting spirit to get his team back to Earth. He showed determination and strength and remained positive through out the ordeal. It showed that they did not lose hope and they remained positive.

  69. From watching Apollo 13 I have learnt that it is quite dangerous flying into space because if a rocket is built only to fly to the Moon and back there is no way of changing it.Also flying into space is about team work because in the film everyone had to work together to get the three astronaghts back to Earth. My favourite part is when they blasted off into space.

  70. After watching Apollo 13, I have learnt the dangers of space travel such as:
    1) lack of oxygen
    2) surviving in colder places
    3) too much friction causing the fire
    4) travelling to the moon can be hard even after meticulous preparations.

My favourite part of the movie was when the space crew on Apollo 13 found out about their oxygen tank burst making it harder for the astronauts to breathe, but the team work and the courage shown by them in very difficult situation was amazing. It also taught me to be courageous and not lose hope even if you are in a really difficult situation like the astronauts on Apollo 13 were.

    1. From the Apollo 13 movie , I have learnt about the dangers of space travel . Being fond of maths , I was intrigued about how between the people at Houston and Jim Lovell , the maths was completed so quickly – in the space of fifteen minutes , under so much pressure!
My favourite part was when every system had to be closed and it was terribly cold and the cassette stopped playing in such a way.
I wasn’t such a fan of the scary bits-when Lovell discovered the leakage-such a shock!
I would be sympathetic with Ken Mattingly because doctors thought he suffered from German measles , when actually he didn’t suffer from anything at all!

  71. There are a lot of dangers when travelling through space.
You need oxygen in space because in Space you can’t breathe and if you lose oxygen it can be very dangerous. Another danger is that like in Apollo 13 you can get hit by something and lose parts of your rocket which can be dangerous. If you lose your heat shield in space like in Apollo 13, when you come back to Earth your rocket could catch fire because of friction.

My favourite part of the movie was when the rocket went up. When your rocket goes up, you need boosters at the bottom. When in space, there is no gravity so you drop them and float in space. It feels like your going slow but actually you are going really fast.

  72. I learnt that there are many things which go wrong during the space travel. Even though the moon is so close to us there are still many ways you could get endangered such as in the movie Apollo 13 a part of the spacecraft had broken down hence the Apollo 13 crew could not reach their destination. My favourite part of the movie was when they reached Earth in the spacecraft which had looked like a fire ball because of the friction. When traveling through the vacuum of space, where there is no atmosphere to slow movement in any way, objects can get up to speeds that are simply impossible on Earth, partly because of drag and partly because going that fast makes you go on fire.

  73. I learnt from Apollo 13 that if you won’t be prepared you might be stuck in a difficult situation. For example, if you are stuck in any gravitational pull trying to get back home might be difficult. My favourite part was when the oxygen tank was low and that created suspense.

  74. I really enjoyed watching Apollo 13 as it was a great film. My favourite part was when they found out that there wasn’t enough oxygen for the astronauts to breathe because it was really dramatic and I didn’t know what they would do next but then they found a way to save the oxygen.

I have learnt that there are many dangers when going to space. Here are a few:

-There is no oxygen for the astronauts to breathe.
-There can be too much carbon dioxide leaving the astronauts feeling dizzy.
-There is no gravity pulling the astronauts down so they are left floating in the spaceship and they might accidentally press a button.

Sometimes a mission can go terribly wrong but the astronauts need to be able to stay calm.

  75. I’ve learnt that there could be a lot of dangers of being an astronaut and you need to take risks sometimes. You also can’t just guess a question because something might go wrong and your whole entire crew might die. You need to get the right answers so you can save lives. I have also learnt that when your close to any planet, you don’t even need to use the boost to do this, but you go around them and it gives you a boost and you can go back to Earth. However, don’t get too close to the planet because it could pull you in. That is because it has gravity and gravity is a force. I thought that Apollo 13 was an excellent movie and I would love to watch it again. I think the best bit I liked was when something really bad went wrong and they had to work together. I didn’t like the part when they were all trapped and they were about to die.
    Conclusion:

I think that this movie was amazing and I would love to show somebody else it.

  76. Apollo 13 was an exciting movie. My favourite part is when they figured out how to get back to Earth safely. I’ve learnt that even if everything is checked, something can still go wrong. In Apollo 13, lots of things went wrong. I’ve also learnt that if just one simple thing goes wrong, everything can go wrong.

  77. From the movie Apollo 13, I have learnt that everything can go wrong so everyone has to pay attention so the astronauts survive. In this movie mostly everything went wrong, but it was interesting to see how they fixed it. Unfortunately they didn’t get to the moon like Apollo 11, but it still was a experience of a lifetime for them. My favourite bit was when all of there food and drinks were floating and also the drinks were made into bubbles.

  78. From the movie I learnt that there can be many dangers of space travel such as malfunctions, there could not be enough fuel, lack of oxygen and that they have to train for certain things

My favourite part of the movie is when the astronauts went into space because it is a very big thing for everyone, it is the very first time for the astronauts and that they were successful to come back to the earth.

  79. Apollo 13 is a fantastic film and I enjoyed it a lot. I learnt a lot about space travel and how dangerous it can be.

My favourite part was when they safely landed in the sea; back on Earth.

The part I disliked was when one of the astronauts was belived to have measels and was replaced with one I did not like. Luckly, in the end he did not have measels.

I really liked the movie and I expect that you will love it too!!!

  80. I’ve learnt from watching the movie Apollo 13 that the dangers in space travel is that the parts on the rocket might not be attached securly and can fall of when the rocket is in space the next danger is that there might have not been enough fual to travel to space and back again and the final danger is that there might not be enough oxegon for you to breath in.My favourite part was when the capcual landed because if they didn’t land softly they would have made a crack in the ground or the heat pannlel could have brocken and the astronauts would have died because the fire would have got to the astronauts and burnt them.

  81. I have learnt about Apollo 13 and how difficult it is to travel into space as you have to train a lot before you can ride the rocket into space and land on the moon softly. You need to have a lot of fuel before you go into space. You have to be confident ,strong and brave to go to the moon.My favourite part was when everyone was doing a countdown before the rocket took
off. Also my favourite part was when all the food was floating in the air when they were trying to eat as there is gravity.

  82. Apollo 13

From the movie Apollo 13 I learnt how hard it is in space and how tough the training is.It takes 5 years to train to be an astronaut, they have to do things like repair advanced technology under water with a heavy suit and machines . They also have to sit in a machine that
spins around than 9 times earths gravitational force [ If you can’t control yourself then your body may shutdown].

My favorite part was when the oxygen tank burst, they were short of oxygen and they rescheduled there plan and had to work out the maths for it.

  83. Apollo 13 is about a space agency NASA trying to land people on the moon just like Apollo 11 where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin successfully landed. But this time it was unsuccessful and it showed me the difficulties of space travel.

  84. I have learnt that anything can go wrong in space for example you can get hit by a meteor.

In apollo 13 liked the part when they managed to get the carbon dioxide level down. It is hard to get to space because it is hard to leave the atmosphere because gravity pulls you down also if your oxygen tank bursts you will lose air when the tank is empty you will die because there is no air to breathe.

  85. What Did I learn? (JB)
I learnt from the film that you need a lot of force to lift off to space. It takes just seconds to get up space. When you get into space, you have a certain amount of energy that you have to use for getting to the moon or other destinations. In space, the planets are so far apart that you need lots of fuel to travel from planet to planet. You must prevent the spaceship from having faults as this may cause a loss of energy and limits your time in space. Some leaks that occur on your space ship may be minor but some may cause you to stop somewhere in space and you may not have enough energy to get back home. That is why the spaceship has to be built very well.
Oxygen is very important, as space does not have trees like earth has, so you take oxygen tanks that will keep you alive. Space is also a very dangerous place for the reasons I have told you.
This is my review about the film. I have learnt a lot and I thought the film was great.

  86. I liked the part when they managed to get the carbon dioxide
level down. It is hard to get to space because it is hard to leave the atmosphere because gravity pulls you down also if your oxygen tank bursts you will lose air when the tank is empty you will die because there is no air to breathe. If your engine explodes you will have no power to move the space ship

  87. I liked the part when they managed to get the carbon dioxide
level down. It is hard to get to space because it is hard to leave the atmosphere because gravity pulls you down also if your oxygen tank bursts you will lose air when the tank is empty you will die because there is no air to breathe. If your engine explodes you will have no power to move the space ship.

  88. I learnt from Apollo13 that it is very difficult to travel into space and become an astronaut. One must have perfect eyesight and one can’t even have a trace of a illness; an astronaut was going to go up into space but the medical services found a trace of measles [even though he never actually caught the measles!] so they disallowed him.
Also you must be strong enough to face a extremely high level of G force .
I also learnt about the human side of being an astronaut and how they feel emotional and frightened . For example when the side of the service shuttle broke off and there was an oil leek, the astronauts thought they were not going to get back to Earth alive. The movie showed the astronauts feeling homesick also they were missing their family as they are humans too.
I think the mission Apollo 13 taught space teams how dangerous it really is to go up into space and try and go onto the moon. I hope that space teams now try not to make that mistake again. Also I think that people should try to send someone to the moon again as this movie taught us perseverance and to try hard as you never know what is going to happen, even when their is no hope a miracle may ocor.

  89. On 11th April 1970, the Apollo 13 mission was launched into space and headed towards the moon.

During a routine procedure, one of two oxygen tank exploded and the spaceship was badly damaged. Mission Control on Earth aborted the lunar landing mission and the astronauts had to move from Odyssey (the command module) into Aquarius (the moon landing module) for safety.

Using spare parts and ingenuity the NASA team on Earth and the astronauts in Space were able to fix the air filters and create enough electrical power to restart Odyssey for re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere.
At the end of the film the astronauts land safely in the Pacific Ocean.

The film shows us the numerous ways of how space travel can be very dangerous. Some of the risks are:

    • Lack of oxygen as otherwise the astronauts would suffocate.
    • Excess carbon dioxide which can make you feel dizzy and can be lethal.
    • The risk of explosions which can cause the spacecraft to fly out of control.
    • Extreme temperature changes.
    • Failure in communication systems. Constant contact with Earth is required to keep astronauts updated on their progress.

A famous quote from the film is, “Failure is not an option”, and this shows that travelling in Space is dangerous but with the right attitude you can accomplish anything. Space travel is an amazing thing but you must be prepared to take the risk!

  90. Apollo 13 is a movie which tries to explain to us never to give up and continue until the end . It also informs us that space travel can be one of the most dangerous things . The movie gave us a great feeling about deadly situations such as oxygen leakage and power loss .
The crew were very lucky to survive . I was amazed at how many solutions Houston came up with to solve every problem. Some were like making a carbon dioxide (CO2) filter with a radio and oxygen tubes, or slingshot around the moon to save energy because gravity will make the Apollo 13 lunar module go around the moon and low pressure thrust would enable the crew to come back to Earth. But at one moment the rocket had so much momentum the crew were flying away from Earth (with all power switched off) so captain Jim enabled radio contact and got approval for his landing sequence on Earth . This was risky because the crew needed to keep Earth visible from window one which had frosted over after three days of no power . This meant visibility would be hard. Houston had no other option.
Before landing the crew saw the heat shield had crumbled of. Whilst landing the metal started to melt opening the ship . The parachute failed so the crew had to switch off the safety program. The world thought they were dead but suddenly the Apollo 13 main ship floated through the clouds . That was extremely good perseverance and great mental power.
This gave me an idea of space travel and if I get into the field (or even NASA) I would try the next closest thing : mission planning.

  91. Apollo 13 is an amazing film. The movie shows us how dangerous it is to land on the Moon. To get to the Moon everything has to go perfectly so if one little thing goes wrong the astronaut’s lives could be at risk.

To get into space you need a lot of practice, even then things could still go wrong. Before I saw this movie I didn’t realize how hard it was to land on the Moon and this movie explained it very well. To get to the Moon is a very extraordinary thing to do.

My favourite part was when the astronauts were still in the Earth’s atmosphere when the three minute countdown for them to land on Earth came and went. Everyone thought they were dead because they weren’t replying to mission control. When they landed in the sea, everyone was so happy.

  92. Apollo 13 is a movie all about astronauts traveling through space to land on the Moon. The astronauts who went to the Moon practiced lots of times, in a simulator, until they got it right. There are many dangers for people to travel through space. The crew do not land on the moon, as their oxygen tanks were very low. The oxygen tanks were low because they were stirred and little sparks came out of them causing an explosion.

One astronaut really wanted to go to the Moon but he was told by the mission commander that either he could go or one of his friends, so he decided to stay back. The astronaut that did not go to space was afraid of getting sick. The dangers in space are: not enough energy, running out of fuel, food, oxygen or the spacecraft being destroyed by rocks or comets. Other dangers include the spacecraft catching fire, a failure with the controls, crashing into the Earth and their parachute not opening. Sometimes your engines could fail. They go slow in space without booster rockets but when they come into the Earths atmosphere they will reach very high speeds because of the Earths gravity. When one fuel tank runs out they will drop it so the space craft won’t be heavy. The boy was sad for his dad, the astronaut, because he did not land on the moon.

If one mistake is made, everything can go wrong. In space it is very cold. This was Apollo’s seventh mission and they were racing with Russia to land on the Moon first. In Apollo 13 there was a problem with power loss which caused them to fail their mission. The mission commander made the astronauts come back to Earth, so they did not make it to the Moon.

  93. Apollo 13 was an amazing film as it really showed what had happened and the problems that were caused during the mission. One of the problems in the mission was that part of the engine got hit so that caused a large problem even though they didn’t actually land on the moon.It was really interesting and it was great to find out about the many dangers in space.

  94. I’ve learn’t that going to Space is very dangerous. Everything needs to work perfectly. If a part of a spacecraft is faulty, then an astronaut’s life is at risk. Also, astronauts need to train for a long time before going to space so that they can be well prepared.

My favorite part of the movie was when the astronauts came back to Earth safely. I thought they were going to die in Space, so I was really happy when they came back home to their family.

  95. Apollo 13 was a very good movie. This movie has helped me understand the dangers of travelling into space. I have learnt that a rocket is a very extradinory thing. It has usually 5 engines and different programs which use the engine in different ways so for instance, program 67 could be used for docking the spaceship with the lunar module which brang out halfway into the flight. The movie shows me that there are 3 main parts of an spaceship, an command module where the three astronauts are in the processes of taking off and landing. It is where the astronauts spend most of their time in the flight because the command module is the control base of the rocket with all the buttons and switches needed to have a safe flight. A lunar module is the place where the rocket cannot go any further into the atmosphere of the moon without using up most of the fuel in the engines so there wouldn’t be enough fuel for the astronauts to complete the mission. This meant that NASA needed to create a module which could land on the moon and take of the moon so the lunar module. The module had space for 2 of the 3 astronauts which meant that the pilot had to stay in the rocket and look after the controls. The next and final part of an rocket is it’s engines. This powers the rocket. Without it, the journey would be much longer as the rocket would only be pulled by an planet’s gravity.

  96. Continued favourite part
My favourite part was when the astronauts didn’t have enough fuel to get bsck to Earth and the mission controllers along with Ken had to find a solution.

  97. Travelling in space can take a lot of time, effort, energy and work. I think that is movie has shown the dangers of going outer space and also how it effects other peoples lives to. Know that I think about it is an amazing achievement to get to the moon.

  98. This movie has taught me a lot about space such as, space can be very dangerous to travel through and that you need to work quite hard to go outer space. Also that, you’ll have to take a lot of parts of the rocket and leave them orbiting the Earth [which I think is a waste of ship to build].

  99. I learnt that there are a lot of dangers when you’re an astronaut and you’re going to space. Some of the dangers is:
. Running out of oxygen – you can’t breath as you need oxygen to survive
. Running out of fuel – you need enough fuel for the rocket to reach its destination (in this case the moon) and back to Earth
. Connection – you have to keep in touch with the mission controllers and not lose connection because if something goes wrong you need to tell them
Astronaut suit – make sure you don’t take off your astronaut suit in space because there is no oxygen/air.
Going into space is incredible but you need to get along with the other astronauts too!

    1. Getting into to space is hard because there is no gravity and you
have to have enough power to push through the atmosphere. Pluto
      is not a planet,it’s a dwarf planet.
